Alena Sharp
Alena Sharp started playing golf at age
10 in Ontario, Canada. She won the
Canadian Junior Championship in 1999 and
in 2000 received a golf scholarship to
New Mexico State University, where she won
the 2000 Big West Conference Championship,
2002 NMSU Invitational and the 2002 and
2003 Sun Belt Conference Championships.
In 2003, Alena was Sun Belt Conference Female Athlete
of the Year and NCAA First-Team All-American. She turned
professional in the fall of 2003 and qualified for the
LPGA Tour in 2005, quickly becoming recognized as the top
Canadian player on the LPGA Tour. She hosts the Alena
Sharp Charity Classic that benefits The Alzheimer’s Society
and The United Way of Hamilton and Halton and this year
became the face of Canadian golf for the cure, which
supports breast cancer research all across Canada. Alena
credits her parents as the individuals most influencing
her career.
